The Carpenter’s Inheritance – 5Lucinda Bell wants to be a lawyer like her father. but that’s not so easy in 1893. When she goes home, she finds Virginia will not let women practice law, so she moves to Massachusetts. The local carpenter and a restaurant owner are helpful, but not everyone is. Despite her resolve to stay away from attachments until she gets her business going, her interest in Matthew grows.
Matthew Templin doesn’t know who his father is and thinks his mother was a soiled dove. He is attracted to Lucinda as he does carpentry work for her, but he tells himself he’s not good enough for her. He’s grown used to people looking down on him. However, he finds some papers that might just disprove everything he thought he knew about his heritage.
I loved this story until near the end. The reveal made no sense to me. It had way too many holes that I can’t explain without spoilers. I know this author could have come up with a better explanation than this. I gave it 4.5 stars, which rounded up to five.
A Love So Tender – 5
Aimee Riley had been in love with Greg for years, and she’s been waiting for him to propose. However, he sets his sights for Cynthia Rowland and breaks Aimee’s heart. She leaves her family’s farm to go help her aunt and uncle run their orphanage. While there, a woman brings a baby boy whose mother died in childbirth, and no one knows where his father has gone back East. She takes him as her own. Six years later Rex Donnelly, Georgie’s father, returns to claim his son, turning Aimee’s world upside down. Despite her loathing for the man, she is aware of a strange attraction between them. Only God can untangle this mess.
I loved this story and found it hard to put down. It was very well written and a joy to read.

Both of these stories were sweet, clean love stories that I recommend for anyone who wants an entertaining few hours of reading.
Matt needs answers and so does Lucinda. Both need to succeed in their chosen field, but there are forces seeking to stop them. Who will win? You'll have to read this book to find out. Laurie Alice Eakes has done it again with this nifty novel. Totally enjoyed this book.
Both stories are great Christian based believable stories.
They are both enjoyable and here's hoping you enjoy them as much as I did.
I won't be a spoiler but just state that sometimes all of us need to just let go and let God!
Really liked Matthew and Lucinda and the details about the time period. Lucinda was a heroine I could root for--I liked that she was so determined to practice law despite some of the townspeople not approving of a "lady lawyer." I liked Matthew -- he was a true hero.
What and exciting novella. A lady lawyer in the 1890's, a handsome man with a mysterious past, and an evil opponent. What else do you need for a great story? I loved this little book.
Lucinda loves the law profession. But she's a woman. She buys a practice far from home, hoping to make a success of herself. But how will she when the town folk don't want her there, someone in particular. Matthew is a carpenter, barely getting by. He would love to pursue Lucinda, but they are at different stations in life. He does, however, find many reasons to help her & be around her. Sweet, clean romance with no bad words or sex. I really enjoyed it!
Great books! I enjoyed them both! It was interesting to read about the biases both men and women had about women lawyers in The Carpenter's Inheritance and to compare those thoughts to what life is like now. Also, how it appeared 'odd' that a woman of 30 wasn't married yet in A Love So Tender. I like reading books like this to know what life was like before now. I'm not a bit surprised how good Tracey Bateman ' s book was because I've read others by her, but I've never read anything by Laurie Alice Eakes, but I will now!!
